Background and vision

With today's economic and financial challenges, the vast majority of orphans and their families struggle to meet their basic needs. Year after year, with low academic levels, most of these children find themselves dropping out of school to ensure that their basic needs and those of their families are met.
This program aims to promote orphan education by providing consistent and professional support to our sponsored orphans, improving their academic performance and eventually preventing them from dropping out of school, thus helping to prepare orphans for a productive and active quality life.

  • Prevent school dropout

Project activities

  • Offer or subsidize tutoring in critical subjects (Science, Physics, Chemistry, French and Math).
  • Providing professional assistance to children with special needs

Challenges

The following table shows that the children chosen to benefit from the project this year are at risk of repeating the school year because they have grades below or barely equal to the average.

Therefore, the challenges to be met will be to improve the success rate and the average grade.

Together, we’ve been able to improve the Boulahcen family’s quality of life, and put a smile back on the faces of their children, who will be able to study under more favorable conditions 

Project duration

April 13 to December 11, 2021

Context

Thanks to the great generosity of a sponsor, the Boulahcen family benefited from a renovation of their home. As soon as the sponsor expressed his desire to renovate the Boulahcen family's home, our volunteers contacted the Boulahcen family to supervise the necessary work, while accompanying the family throughout the project.

Project details

  • Buying and installing a water heater
  • Install an electricity meter (because the family rented electricity from a neighbor)
  • Waterproof the roof with cement and special weatherproof paint
  • Finish interior walls with cement and paint (ceiling, living room, bedroom, kitchen)
  • Installing ceramic tiles in the bathroom
  • Installing an aluminium window in the bedroom
  • Buy mattresses for the bedroom (donated by another volunteer)

Together, let’s save little Mohammed Amine’s eyesight

Context

Mohammed Amine, a 12-year-old orphan from southern Morocco sponsored by the Alyatim association, lost the use of his right eye in a tragic accident. The project involves replacing the damaged eye with a prosthesis so that the child can overcome the physical consequences of his condition and avoid infection of the other eye and total loss of sight.

Project stages

  • Medial evaluation by an ophthalmologist
  • Perform an operation to remove the diseased eye
  • Cavity preparation
  • Installation of the artificial eye (prosthesis)
  • Medical follow-up

Actions

The Alyatim association set up a team of dedicated volunteers in Morocco and Canada to make this project a reality and to install an ocular prosthesis for Mohammed Amine.

The volunteers then committed to :

  • Organize a fundraising event
  • Make appointments with specialists
  • Get in touch with laboratories
  • Supporting Mohammed Amine and his family throughout the process
  • Providing transport and accommodation for Mohammed Amine and his family
  • Medical follow-up

Together, hand in hand, we have built a dignified home for the OUHMICHE family

In the heart of the Middle Atlas mountains, in Khénifra, Morocco, where temperatures can reach -5°C in winter, the Ouhmich family, made up of a mother who has been widowed for just 4 months and her 2 children, live in a single room with no kitchen or toilet.The eldest son, for lack of space, sleeps in a tent outside, where he piles up his blankets, old cookware and belongings, all exposed to the rain and cold.The family was housed in this room thanks to a cattle breeder, for whom the mother and eldest son work as shepherds, while the young boy goes to school.The accommodation (only one bedroom) is insalubrious, exposed to the freezing cold of the companion and the unbearable smells of the animal excrement they keep for the owner.The Alyatim association began by taking charge of the young orphan and launched this companion to build them a real home consisting of: two bedrooms, a kitchenette and a bathroom.We’re counting on your help to provide this vulnerable family with a home that will protect them from the elements, vandalism and give them the dignity and life they deserve.

Dear donors,

At last, we have all played our part in making the Ouhmich family's dream of a dignified and respectable home come true. For a year, the Ouhmich family had been living in a tent in difficult climatic conditions, where temperatures could reach -5°C in winter.

Today, the Ouhmich family is well settled in their new home, equipped with three bedrooms, a kitchen and a bathroom. On behalf of the Ouhmich family, we would like to thank you for your participation, your donations and your contribution have been essential to the success of this project.
