Privacy Your data is private

The ALYATIM Association for Orphans (AAPO) is committed to protecting the privacy of the personal information of its members, donors, beneficiaries and volunteers. We value the trust of our stakeholders and the public, and recognize that maintaining this trust requires us to be transparent and accountable in how we treat the information you choose to share with us.

Our privacy policy

Personal information is any information about a specific, identifiable individual, including common details such as name, address, e-mail and telephone number.

AAPO is responsible for the protection of your personal information obtained through our office in Canada, our office in Morocco, website or volunteer activities. AAPO has designated a Privacy Officer who is responsible for ensuring that AAPO complies with laws and best practices regarding the protection of personal privacy.

AAPO collects a limited amount of personal information about its volunteers, donors and potential supporters, including name, title, address, telephone number and other pertinent contact information. For beneficiaries, AAPO requests more information, such as photos, family budgets, birth and death certificates, etc., in order to evaluate and select files deserving of assistance. We also collect information from other charities working with orphans in Africa and Canada to build partnerships.

OALA collects only personal information that is relevant to the selection of beneficiaries and the provision of support services. You have the right to provide as much or as little personal information as you wish.

Personal information collected by AAPO is kept confidential and is only disclosed as necessary to fulfill the identified purposes.

If we identify a new situation requiring the use of your information, we will contact you before using the information to obtain your consent. There are, however, circumstances where your consent to the use and disclosure of your personal information is not required (for example, where consent would compromise an investigation, etc.).

All the personal information we collect comes directly from the individuals themselves, for example: our Alkafala application forms, donation forms, during conversations over the telephone, on registration forms and via correspondence with donors.

Unless otherwise specified, we generally assume that this information is accurate and complete. While we do not regularly update the personal information provided to us, we ensure that opportunities exist for individuals to update their own personal information on a regular basis.

OALA uses appropriate means to protect all personal information in its possession and control. Access to your personal information is restricted to AAPO members, volunteers, agents and authorized service providers who need it to do their jobs. All partners under contract with AAPO must acknowledge that they comply with Canadian legal requirements (provincial and federal) and acknowledge in writing compliance with AAPO’s Privacy Policy.

We are transparent about our privacy policies and procedures. We make reasonable efforts to inform individuals about our policies and procedures, the purposes for which we collect, use or disclose personal information and how to access your personal information.

If there are any changes or additions to our Privacy Policy, we will post those changes on our website and make them available upon request so that you are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it and what choices you have. Regardless of any changes we make to our Privacy Policy, we use your personal information only in accordance with the version of the Privacy Policy in effect at the time you provided the information unless you give us your consent to use it otherwise.

At any time, you have the right to access your personal information on file at AAPO. Upon request, we will inform you if we have any personal information about you and give you access to that information. If we have personal information about you, we may also tell you for what purposes it is used or disclosed.

To access or update your personal information or to make a request to withdraw your consent to the collection, use or disclosure of your personal information, please contact us by e-mail at alyatim.org@gmail.com and specify in the subject line: “For the Personal Information”.

To fulfill our mission of supporting needy orphaned children in Canada and Africa, AAPO seeks to maintain the trust of our donors and beneficiaries. With this goal in mind, we are committed to being transparent and open. You can contact our Privacy Officer at any time if you have any concerns about our compliance with our stated Privacy Policy.

All complaints will be investigated. If an objection is justified, we will take all appropriate measures to rectify the situation, including changing our policies and practices if necessary. Your feedback is always appreciated as we constantly strive to improve.
